In this course we are looking into the process of producing a track, using a variety of references. Starting with a broad reference such as genre-specific, down to the last detail of producing using a track-specific reference. We are looking into the three basic patterns that give each track their signature sound, in order to apply the knowledge to the reference of your choice.
Video 1 - Producing With Reference (Genre)
In this part we are looking into the production process using genre specific references. In this example we are deconstructing Latin music, and break down the process into tempo, harmony and the instrumentation of the composition. We are also discussing the importance of small sound touches that help emphasize the reference.
Video 2 - Producing With Reference (Mistake)
In this part we are going over a situation of a composition being too identical, or even an exact copy of the reference given. Unless it is meant to sound as an exact copy (remake, remix, backing tracks etc), that would be a mistake.
Video 3 - Producing with Reference (Reggae Example)
In this part we will discuss a situation of a single-track reference on a reggae track. In this example, we will be maintaining identical drum patterns and instrumentation to create a near identical composition of the original track reference.
Video 4 - Producing with Reference (Create)
In this part let's take a look at how to understand and use unique reference tracks.
